I would like to offer an apology if I have rubbed anybody the wrong way. Every winner deserves its ribbon. It is the nature of the voting. I just think people are on the wrong track here. Yes, it fits the subject perfectly and is indeed "teh funny", but nothing more.
BradP has shot some great photographs, and won well deserved ribbons, but this one is not one of them. :)
So lighten up, and take some photos, I know I will try to do that...

Ok, 2nd try. I wrote quite a long post about 1 1/2 2 hrs ago but it disappeard during post. so now I copy and paste into notepad before posting.

First: congrats Brad,
you ribbon hog :)

Second: I think I can see both sides of this debate.
Like Apollo2077 and jonr said the photo is a bit "flat" If you look at it from an kinda artsy perspective you see what I mean. It's very centered (L/R and T/B), the light is flat and not interesting and the BG is featureless (almost non-existent).
BUT: for this challenge this photo is perfect - well we already knew that from the blue ribbon :) - it's to the point, easy to understand if you've ever heard of a Computed Axial Tomography scan (actually the title of your photo should be CAT scan) and the BG does not interfer with the punch line.

You post:

OK, I have some on the BG:
Make it look medical or like a hospital. Use a white (sterile looking) BG with medical props: needles, syringes, stetoscopes etc. Have some lab technicians - no not the ones CJ had doing the lab test :) - in the BG, preferably OOF unless you get DrJones to lend you a hand with models. If the scanner has a button to push, have a gloved (white latex gloves) hand pushing the button.

Of course the problem with a BG like that is that is becomes cluttered and draws attention from the main subject, so maybe the black was the best choice. BTW how did you make it so completely black?

I did not enter this challenge since I couldn't think of anything that would work. My sense of humour is more verbal (puns, one-liners, wordplay etc) but not so visual and I had problems with that. But you showed me the way: classic one-liners, just like a cartoon. So if I can visualise something that could be in The Farside then it'll probably work. (or simply photograph something out of the farside, hmm..... interesting idea).
Now I have one idea that could work, except it's about 2 weeks too late :(

Congrats again
and keep up the good work

ps sorry about the long post

Congratulations on your win Brad - that's great!, however I will have to agree with Jon in this instance. Although it is a very funny picture, I feel that it comes across a bit on the "flat" side to me. I can understand why it won, but I also feel that if you took a step back and tried to analyse the picture, you will see what Jon is talking about. I have to admit Jon may have chosen a more delicate way of putting it though!! Congrats again!

Perhaps I should have shot this on the desk with all the clutter, or yet a white background to cut back on the light/dark contrasts.
Perhaps I should have cropped this differently too. I tried to make sure it wasn't static and dead center and at least my eyes are naturally drawn to the green light which falls in the realm of thirds.

If you have suggestions, please offer them. I have no way to better my photographs without your help.

This finish could not have been funnier - it was better than the individual pictures! Thamer: ((hug)) - you deserve it!

I had hoped it would end up with the mousetrap to the right and was even better with a Blue & Red finish!
Sorry to have duped everyone here. I desperately tried to find a cat, but none were to be found that had suitable limbs & tail. Matt BTW, will be taking up residence in my home, and will be cared for properly - LOL

Well, if - like you say - it's a stuffed animal as opposed to a cuddly toy then you're actually quite a sicko. : )

Excellent gag by Clubjuggle too! :D

Reminds me of when I went my snowboarding acouple of years back and my dear old cat became gravely sick. I came back to a £950 vet bill!! More than twice the cost of my trip (excluding beer). The poor old fella died in my arms that weekend too. :(

congrats Mr P on a very funny shot and a job well done. i can strongly sympathise with the anguish of violently butchering a poorly, CUTE, defenceless wittle soft animal - my bunny suffered the same way for the sake of art. the guilt should be overwhelming, but when the result is as rib-tickling funny as the above, i think it's entirely justified. all you need is to find a willing old lady to make the suitable repairs to poor old matt.

again, well done!

One of the funniest in the challenge, and very nicely taken too. The green light is a nice touch. More cats should be scanned this way!

Very funny. It is purrrfect (forgive the pun, but hey, if anyone can appreciate a pun, you can.) The fact that the light is on inside the scanner adss a great touch. Nice shot.

I'd have to say that overall this is the most creative, Humerous, and best photographed entry in the challenge. Congratulations!

Very, very clever. GREAT shot also. BOL P.S. I hope the head isn't cut off of the (stuffed) cat to make it fit?!

Poor kitty. Very funny take on a cliche pun.

:) Great idea. Really like this one.
But I just wish that some paws / claws were seen (just to make it look a bit more unpleasent than it already is) . I think it would be worth trying it again with a more realistic looking one.

I havnt laughed so much since the dog bit the minister, This has got all theingredients of a good shot, using a simple phrase and tuning it around, very slick, This has to be a ribbon entry, I would vote this a 10

A funny take on the term. Lighting looks good and I like the slight green glow too, makes it look more realistic! Hopefully no cat was harmed in the production of the image.
