Critique Club:
Meeting the Challenge: Very well done, no complaints here.
Composition: I love the positioning of the lemon slice, and the glass stones beneath it ground it a bit as well as add some varied texture and good color contrast. The only thing I might say about them though, is that I don't find them anyway connected to the lemon. I like the tight crop here, also. The frame is filled well, with good balance of empty space.
Technical Quality: Excellent, I have a Sony f707, too and love the macro cababilities and fast lens. Everything is very clear, the lighting is excellent and the background is inky black. No post processing problems noticed.
Creativity: Excellent, I tried some things with lemons for this challenge, but couldn't come up with anything nearly this nice.
Overall Conclusion: I was glad to pull up this to critique, as it was one of my very favorites in the challenge, and as stated above, I see no problems and a lot of quality to this photo, except that the glass stones just are not real related to the lemons, but photography being art rather than life, this is only a slight problem, and is only my personal viewpoint.
Congrats on your placement here!
If you have ?'s feel free to email me. Good luck in future challenges, and I'm sure you will do well in them entering this kind of work! |

Nice contrasts and shades of yellow. Seems a bit off balance, which is okay, but I don't see any reason why it should be. I love the use of blues beneath that provide lots of color interest here.

Very nice. This is one of my favorite lemons this challenge. I would have liked to see the whole lemon or maybe just the right third of the picture by itself. The choice of the blue glass/stones is good but the reflections in them are somwhat distracting to my eye especially under the lemon on the left side. Nice job. 6.

The sharpness and DOF of this picture is superb. Not sure why the blue glass? pebbles do it - but somehow they just offset the white fesh and make the yellow peel stand out against the the black.

I tried doing many things with lemons last week but nothing really impressed me at all. What you have done is exactly that what I was looking for. Congratulations, why didn't I think of that? You have composed this wonderfully, I feel as if I want to bite into that lemon, it looks so fresh and crisp. You have really brought out the full charachter of it. Good job!

Nice lighting. The blue stones against the white and yellow lemon is great. The white color of the inside of the fruit doesn't look natural though. The black background is pretty harsh. I wonder how blue would have looked.
