This is another entry in my World War 2 Vets project. Bill Elder served as a search and rescueman in World War 2 with the US Navy in the South Pacific.

11/11/2004 was his 82nd birthay and he graciously agreed to pose for me after I introuduced myself at the World War 2 Memorial in DC.

My thanks to every one of you who served your nation when duty called.

Taken with my 50mm lens.

Congratulations on your first ribbon! It is well deserved as your picture is lovely and emotive. The monument in the backgroud in soft focus really adds to the feeling of the shot.

The sky is a little hot for my taste, but other than that the shot is wonderful, the far away look in his eyes..definetly a hero. 9

Excellent composition - I really like how you used DOF and set up the monument to be in line with the rose. Facial expression captured perfectly. Great shot!

Photographs are about emotion. Those of us who were close do remember. With your photograph perhaps you will remind others who are too young to know.

Good job of exposing and composing. Only nit is that the monument is at an angle. 8

Now I really like this photograph, it has emotion. You can see it in his eyes and face. The Washington Monument in the background is great being out of focus just enough to add to the picture but not over power the subject. One note: This shot has so much emotion I believe if you could see a video of this same man at the same time you took the picture he would be as motionless and concentrated as in this photograph captures and when you can achieve what would happen after this fraction of time you have captured in a photo, you have done an excellent job.
