The title nails it for me -- the endless wilderness, rugged and forbidding, and the road one must take. Lines wander every which way, adding complexity to the task. The colors are muted, but they're very compelling in support of the overall mood. The depth of field is spectacular, passing right through the middle of the image. The square crop assists in leading the eye into rather than out. Lot of detail and sharpness, the sharpness even being overdone to the extent that white lines hug the mountain edges.
Personal favorite of the challenge.
