Challenge: Understatement (Standard Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-7D
Lens: Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro for Canon
Location: A living room in Los Angeles
Date: Nov 18, 2017
Aperture: 8.0
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/200
Date Uploaded: Nov 19, 2017

Used hot glue to suspend a light bulb from a long fiberglass rod. Two flashes off of bounce cards left and right and one below with a snoot. The one below had a orange gel that gives a color version a warn tone to the interior of the lamp and the top. Adjusted contrast in LR and cleaned dust in PS.

I have a version where I gave the filament a warm dark amber glow and I thought that made a more interesting image but that does not meet the rules and I thought is was counter to the "understatement" challenge.

Hello from the critique club

An excellent image that meets the challenge well

Watt (sorry, just couldn’t resist!) a lovely simple concept, it really is true the simpler the image the more effective it is and this certainly is very effective. You’ve handled the lighting well, it’s inevitable given the nature of the subject you are going to get some unwanted reflections but these are minimal to the overall end result. The mono processing is good with a broad range of distinctive and subtle tones throughout. It would be difficult to improve on what you have so well done Joe for a great image, score and result.

I don't really feel that I have a good eye for B&W, but I am trying. This subject was obvious for a B&W shot. I have a version where I slightly color the filament orange and I like that look even better. This is now one of my own favorite shots. Would like to make a large print. Not sure whether to make a metal print or some other high gloss print.
