An outtake from the "Impressionism" challenge.
No artistic filters used.
The effect was achieved by holding a clear glass filter from my old Nikon SLR smeared with "Vicks vapo rub"in front of the lens..this softened the image and added random light patterns..also adjusted contrast&saturation.

I keep coming back to this wonderful shot--I wish you had used it in the Impressionism challenge!

I just bought a set of clear cokin filters to try this without having to hold something in front of my lens. But in my previous experiments, I've never gotten the wonderful smudging of colors you got here. Any tips? How thick was your layer of Vapo Rub? Is that different than Vasoline in its light properties? Did you smear it unevenly?

Fantastic, and amazing that it was done without PS editing! A great job, and good luck with the challenge.
