A Green Heron (Butorides Virescens) searches for lunch along the West Fork of the San Jacinto river. Taken from my Ascend H12 kayak near Lake Stubblefield, Texas, USA.

No idea how this going to go but really hoping for a high score. From my outing Saturday this was my favorite capture. I love doing more artistic wildlife shots and had gotten really good at it with my 150/2, which is known for its amazing rendering of out of focus areas. The 300/4 is well regarded for it's sharpness (which it has in spades) but isn't known for the beautiful OoF areas like the Olympus SHG lenses. So I was a little concerned about this aspect of my photograph from the lens. This shot shows me that the lens is more than capable of capturing photos in a beautiful and peaceful way like my beloved 150/2.

Photograph was taken while leaning out and over the side of my kayak to get the low perspective.

Hello from the critique club

A great image that contributes to the challenge well

A lovely image Ronnie, you have every right to be pleased with the lens’ performance. I like the composition with the bird to the left looking in, it works well. What I am not so keen on is the centre background, especially in view of the challenge theme, it rather dominates but the clump of grass on the right does save the day… Anyway, it was rightly appreciated here which is what matters well done with your high placing.
