An American Alligator (Alligator Mississippiensis) enjoying the beautiful spring day at 40 Acre Lake in Brazos Bend State Park, Texas, USA.

I have had this style of photograph in my head for a good 2 months now. This is the closes I have come to capturing the photograph in my mind. I wanted take a bright and colorful photograph of a gator such that everything is an out of focus blur of softness against the rough texture of the gator which is in focus. Basically, exactly what I have managed here.........but I also wanted it to be into the sun with all those beautiful little bokeh balls of light. This lens does an amazing job of shooting into the sun and produces some really beautiful images when I do. Unfortunately the gator got up and moved back into the swamp before I could move around and shoot into the sun like I wanted to.

Yes, the photo is level........the gator was laying on the bank of lake.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that contributes well to the open study challenge

A great image Ronnie, the concept and execution is original and effective. I like the use of the diagonal for the 'gator it makes for a more dynamic result. The minimal profile of the animal is sufficient to recognise what it is but too little to dominate it makes for a very effective slice and a strong focal point. I like it a lot, well done Ronnie
