There's not much you can't do with just a few dozen coloured LEDs, a long exposure, and a lot of running about. This is a steel canal bridge, light-painted by a bunch of runners with synchronised colour-changing LEDs strapped to them.

I'm quite happy with this composition; if your first response as a viewer was to ask "what the hell is that?", then my work is done.

Shot from the roof of a nearby car park at 100mm to compress the perspective and get a uniquely flattened view on what's otherwise a fairly large structure, without involving all of the distracting renovated dockyards in the background.

Editing: Curves to bring up the contrast just a little and add a little more blue in the shadows to counteract the residual sodium lighting of the area, slight crop, cloning a couple of hot pixels and places where camera shake had some trails apparently passing through solid objects, dodge and burn to bring up the local contrast of the "flames" a bit, and mute the background water a little more, resize and sharpen.

Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge

Nice one Eugene! What a great opportunity for an original image that fits the challenge brief perfectly. I like your composition avoiding any distractions it enables us to home in on the action which is intriguing in itself especially trying to figure out how the runners created the separation they did. I like the soft illumination from the lighting both on the water and the bridge. This is a great image Eugene, well done
