I took this on a living history weekend at Fort Atkinson, Nebraska. This little girl had come to spend the day with her mom, a re-enactor who tends the sutler store there. Though it was the first weekend in May, it was quite cold both days. Mom had fixed this little girl a mug of hot chocolate which she really really wanted to drink - but which, when I arrived, was too hot to be drunk. It's always dark in the rooms there, but as she was seated at a table by a window, I saw that I had, in addition to an adorable subject, some very nice light to play with. I shoot out there all the time - am sort of the unofficial official photographer so the mom knows me well. I took a number of shots of the girl with the chocolate, and this is a composite of several of them with several distracting elements cloned out. If it looks like a single shot, I take that as a compliment here :) |

The soft focus works really well in this picture. The girl's concentration on that hot chocolate is telling a whole story. A 10 from me and my Red Dragon Award |
