How many times have we seen birds, pigeons especially, on light standards?

two images used... to make the 'eye'
and to grab the red light.
with the eye and red light established, made copy one and copy two. added special effects via "Twirl" on copy two, and then superimposed copy one with blending modes. Adjusted size of resulting image several times to get closer to the 'eye' shape.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

My overall impressions were that I enjoyed this image. It was interesting and unique, and I liked the colors. After rollover when your explanation was revealed, it added even more for me since I was indeed curious.

The colors and lines in the blue and white I loved. I also love the concept of the birds as eyelashes. Crazy unique. The only thing I did not love was the red lights - I found myself wishing they were either sharper or much less sharp. (I am not sure I can explain why, and I didn't distract from my overall enjoyment of the image, but for some reason I kept wanting to see the lines similar to in the white and blue go throughout the red too. But that's probably just weird me.)

Definitely met the challenge. If I had to guess on why your overall score is a bit lower than I might have expected, most of the highest scores were pretty grounded in being 'photo realistic' with either very real seeming scenes or portraits with a bit of a twist. There was some discussion during voting where some folks implied they felt photo-realistic was critical to their voting. I apparently love non-photorealistic images, but such images may end up with lower scores.

Simple, & effective & GORGEOUS color abstract. Sometimes, after one flip it's done.
[ETA] I missed the twirl, which is cool, as the effect doesn't dominate the comp. And I like the idea of combining images. Thanks for the inspiration!
