 My grandmother-in-law suffers from dementia. She is constantly asking about the weather, and sometimes she will sit at the open door for a while which keeps her at peace.

I saw my daughter moving towards her to go outside, but instead stopped for a while and examined her great grandmother's hands. The title is less about the positioning of either person in the family tree. Rather, I think about 1911, when a father much like me watched his daughter with the same curiosity and love.

I've been such an absentee. I've committed myself to being back behind the camera this year, but never did I imagine the way I'd start this year would be with this photo, in this place, among peers who can really judge a picture for its merits.

I sincerely appreciate your feedback, and your votes. This really means a great deal, especially among the competition that I faced. Thank you.
