My son having some water while playing in an unused baseball field during the Canadian Little League finals.

[Sep. 2nd, 2015 03:27:10 PM]

so far I'm sitting at a 5.18 @ 50-some votes.... score isn't important on this image because the intent was to have fun with my image.
My son is my favorite model, I think he's ridiculously cute, but I'm very biased.
I chose this image and processing combo for a few reasons:
Hidden gem is another name for "diamond in the rough", which historically is meant to refer to a person who grew up in poverty/low class, but is "noble" inherently.
The notion of finding something noble in something dirty made me think of this image taken after my son ran around an unused baseball field during a tournament we were attending.
Covered in grime (as peasants would have generally been hundreds of years ago when this phrase was coined), and being a kid, I thought this worked well together thematically; and what kid doesn't have fun when they are getting absolutely filthy dirty?
I thought I would use some "dirty looking" processing to really emphasize the whole "beautiful, but covered in dirt" motif. I'm not sure if anybody else will have picked up on this before reading these notes post-challenge, or if anybody will even bother reading them or care.
None of that matters, because all that matters for this image is my perception of it, and it's perfect to me. :-)

This is a very engaging portrait. This finished much higher in my ranking. Nicely captured.

Booo finished too low. However, this awesome keepsake you have is priceless and the memory captured will now last forever :)

I wish I took photos like these of my boys when they were younger. Love those eyes.
