Thanks for all the great comments everyone. I did NOT clone the strokes, but I burned them a little. I've been watching these boats row on Saturday mornings for a while, so I knew what I was looking for in this challenge. I took this at sunrise from the "U" bridge in Seattle.

Very cool. I am perplexed about how the water disturbance from the oars in the persons wake stay visible...

One of the best examples of implied lines I've seen so far...

Great observation and nice subtlety in the lines. You did well to pull back, opening the shot to show the rower's solitude.

There is a softness to this image which mutes detail. If this were tack sharp of the subject I would have given it a 9. I love the silhouette, and the artifacts of the oars on the water, and that composition carries the image to an 8 from me. Very unique, and full of emotion - just needs a bit more sharpness.

I LOVE the subject on this picture! That's my idea of implied lines. Great job.

This looks as though the ripples have been cloned in. It would have been a lot stronger with out them, but with a slightly better composition.

what an obscure choice of subject - very clever! this is such a case of getting the challenge nailed down - bravo! it's alos quite stylish - the graininess works for me (though it's probably not grainy, just the ripples on the water), and the B&W a good move... the feeling of loneliness, solitude, but a happy peace is oozing from my screen right now. very emotional shot - 9.
