A Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea Ajaja) is returning to its nest at Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary and Rookery, High Island, Texas, USA.

At the last minute before leaving the house for the evening decide to switch to this photo. Here is the photo I originally submitted, which was shot on the same day.

I had to remove this photo for now as it may be my free study photo.

Ja-9 There are a number of rookeries around this area and LA that have Spoonbills that are pretty easy to photograph. Do they nest in Florida? If so, I am sure you can find some at a rookery. I have been chasing photos of these for awhile now and this spring finally got some photos of them. They are so pretty and super colorful right now in their breeding plumage, as most birds are right now.

Oh, if you are ever in the area again and want to get together or want to find some cool wildlife let me know. Have a great year around spot for gators if you like them :-)

great color and composition, in the center of which is air.

oh yeah... the saturated colors really work to add to the burden. I love the details.. foreground may be just a tad oversharpened to my taste, but the dof is perfect.
