| The composition and lighting really appeals to me. I'm personally not a fan of overlays and would love to see this clean but I won't reduce my vote as it is too good a shot. |

Can't see, in my opinion, this image not taking the blue ribbon. It's moody, challenging, fascinatingly lit, spacious, nicely tinted, scratchy and absolutely appropriate for a square shape.
About this scratchiness, how is it achieved? I like the deliberate scruffiness and visual dissonance it imparts. My two favorite images in this challenge, this one and "it takes forever", utilize this effect. |

| The slightly high centered focal point makes this a perfect choice for the square crop. Well composed. The texture mask adds a dimension of drama. |
