Hand Held, Manual [M] Mode whilst getting covered in soot, wind driven splashed fuel, water and cooked by radiated heat. The deep orange and yellow glow is due the type of fuel that is used; AV-GAS (aviation fuel). Different fuel types burn at different "temperatures" or colours. The wind was unpredictable and strong, driving the flames and heat in a maelstrom around the drill stack.

I was kitted up in full fire turnout gear (except my hands) and shooting amongst the fire-fighters on the fire ground, all of whom are ex fire dept colleagues from my days as a full time fire-fighter. Thankfully my D300's are weather sealed and the Sigma lenses I was using are built like tanks. Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 and Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8

Naturally the reference to the "How to tame your Dragon" animated series is there but we all called the old foe "the Dragon"; this shot above others I took had the flame appearing to taunt the fire-fighters in a dragon-like CGI character.

Thank you for the votes of confidence but more importantly your wonderful comments.
This is my 3rd Free Study HM (Honourable Mention) and 5th HM overall.

Nice shot Harvey
The fire looks alive so a Dragon reference was apt.

Nice shot, Harvey! Exceptionally hard catching all the luminosity and dynamic range of fire without it being blown out. Deft touch, my vriend!

Perfect title. Crisp, yet simple. The extreme contrast really makes this work.
