 A desktop set-up with a six-inch figurine, various pieces of lava rock, some coarse sand, and 4 light sources; 3 strobes and a flashlight. Colors achieved with red and yellow gels except the "sun" where yellow was added in post. Background is a translucent sheet, back-lit with one flash. A separate flash provides the figurine's shadow. The third flash is pointed up at the white ceiling with a red gel.

An interesting shot that is assumed to meet the challenge.

In its own right without the benefit of your informative comments the image is a quite convincing setup that conveys the feeling of being on another planet in a realistic sort of way. You must have spent quite some time setting all this up but it was worth all your effort. Your composition is good, I like the reds and the yellows the figure and the shadows, the attention to detail with the footsteps, in fact I like it all except the border which is so unnecessary and to be honest adds nothing to the end result.

This is awesome! What a great imagination. I can't tell if that is an action figure or someone with a great costume. Would love to know where this was shot

Wonderful capture, does look far far way......can't wait to see how it was done. Only negative comment is I personally do not like borders.

This is one of the bizarrest, strangest photos I think I have ever seen on DPC. This is straight out of a 1970s sci-fi short story.

Interesting. This seems like an image that wouldn't be real, like it is set on the moon or mars. But then it is a photo so I think you did a great job.
