I'm floored by the reaction to this shot!! I'm so glad you liked it. But I never expected this type of score.

It's really not what I had imagined. I was quite off on my estimates. I wanted the umbrella to extend almost all the way up to the top of the frame.

I went to ace hardware and bought a copper tube to extend a photography umbrella. I knew it was going to be shorter than I thought, but I didn't know it would be that much shorter than the top of the frame!! I retrospect, it would have to been an amazingly tall pipe. (pcv was longer, but too floppy to work.) :)

I actually wasn't going to use my daughter for this shot -- I was planning on using her friend:



But after taking many shots, I asked my daughter to try it, and I liked that one better. (though it was a hard decision... I do like the other one, as well, and I kept going back and forth.)

seriously .. this is amazing ..
i'm just loving your highly original crop .. so very creative and out of the box ..
congrats on the most highly deserving score ever .. i'm extremely impressed .. :)

oh ... a couple of minutes later .. hahahahaha ... i didnt realize the challenge .. 160 pixels .. so funny ..
even so i'm still extremely impressed .. this totally works .. xx

This was my absolute, far and away favorite. The aspect ratio is SO right for the image. Plus the (as usual) excellent technical and color detail. Bravo!

i bet everybody says it: Mary Poppins. i like how the crop worked to list the subject up while scrolling to fit the top in you feel that she's protected form some serious affairs up there :)

Love this one and especially the long handle on the umbrella and the blowing hair and of course the beautifully dramatic sky. Simple enough to work in this format and interesting enough to make it worth it. I would have been very tempted to crop some off the top - about as much as the amount of earth you have. Probably wouldn't have since I'd have been going for the max 800 high, but now seeing some that were cropped, I think it wouldn't have hurt at all. 10 and top two for me

My choice for the blue. I just love the fly-away nature of her hair and the rather long handle on the umbrella, which to me suggests an upward motion enhanced by the upward sweep of the vertical frame. Nice cloud details too.

Phenomenal! The light, the detail in the clouds, the wind in her hair, the progression from grey to gold ... everything comes together beautifully, and the aspect ratio works!

Excellent use of vertical space! It's interesting from her feet all the way up into the heavens. I also really like that you had her hold the umbrella up so high; it really helps bring the eye up.

i hate this challenge because looking at thumb nails makes my eyes cross... This one however makes the whole thing worth while!!!

Perfection. Love the detail in the sky and the way the eye flows through the image. For me, the umbrella works as an arrow with the dark area of the base and gradient of the sky blending to darkness holding the observer in the image.
