This was fun and quite frustrating to do at the same time. It would have been much easier to print out a picture and paste it to the mirror, but I long ago gave up my photo printer because it was WAAAYYY too expensive to run. 10 ink cartridges at $17 a piece. And they ran out extremely quickly.

There's an incredible pear photographer on 1x.com. She's done a lot with pears and mirrors. I don't know that she's done an eaten pear. But I know with her shadow work that she doesn't do it in photoshop -- the setups are real. So I guessed that her mirror shots were real, as well.

So I at a pear, set it to one side of the non-eaten pear, and moved the mirror/pears around until the eaten one was reflected, but the non eaten one was close enough to be slightly believable that it was a reflection.

It took a number of tries to get the angles right. It was quite annoying, because you really had to wrap the background around in strange ways to get it behind the mirror, and behind the eaten pear so that it was in the reflection!

I did use focus stacking on this, because the reflected pear was way too oof for my tastes, since it had to be so far back to fit in the mirror, even with the aperture closed down all the way, I couldn't get the depth of field I wanted.

I found it amazing that it could be done. I actually liked it better in color, because the backdrop is a brown suede cloth, and the brown of the bosc pear made a nice warm photo.

But it was really interesting trying this out. It's just the first day of voting, but I'm hoping the happy score continues. And I'm really hoping for some comments. :)

But I've been extremely remiss in posting photographer notes -- so I thought I'd do it while I was thinking of it.

Or, you could have printed a picture of a pear and taped it to the mirror. No one would have ever known.

Best pear shot yet :) Very creative take on the challenge, although most pears see themselves as fatter :)
