My daughter is 5 and learning to ride a bike. Notice the 1 training wheel set-up. Our neighbor, a nice elderly relative by marriage passed away last year and as they sell the house we have been keeping a presence next door and using the driveway for bike riding. My house is not shown in this shot, it is through some woods and a few hundred feet away. As for the shot I was intending to take a shot for the winged thing challenge. Add wings later. But I liked the compostion, the leading lines up the driveway, the spot with most contrast being the bike. She was not hurt, she rode around well, stopped and tipped the bike over. We had a laugh, she got up and rode for quite some time more. I like the moment captured. It was a happy time, I was waiting for a shot like that but it was not remotely staged. I'm thankful for the posthumous blue, the comments, etc.

I want to think that if I had had time for another go-round, my 9 would have become a 10. This is a Real Photograph. I wish there were more.

I expect the collective will not be terribly appreciative of this photo, but as a cyclist and a parent, it connects with me. When I taught my younger daughter to ride, she rolled across a tennis court, then fell down, landing on her hands. But she wasn't hurt and jumped up, pumping her fists up and down, yelling "I did it! I did it!"

It's worth the falls. Don't start the kid on clipless pedals quite yet, however.
