The only thing I don't like about this pic is the focus.
I like the subject, the framing, the b/w, In fact, I'm making it one of my favorites I like it so much.

I know as a member of the critique club I am suppose to enlighten the photographers with words of wisdom. But you got me here...My take on the picture is the dog is looking for a place to piss. i.e. a sign post. If so, where is the post? As far as the picture is concerned, I do like the close up shot. This is something I encourage my students to do all the time. Only if their camera can handle the image. A macro lens was need here, if you don't have one it is worth the money to purchase one. I'm not familiar with your Minolta but if it is not an SLR Digital a macro should come with the camera. If so use it. JG

And the connection with road signs is......?????? Composition is good, but focus needs some work.
01/26/2003 10:12:45 PM
and a heck of a nose it is too
01/26/2003 09:57:58 PM
You want a bad score don't you. Well, you are getting one ;) I would give you zero if I could, but I find this submission funny, as it has nothing to do with signs at all. I can not even think of anything ;D jgillard1

This one really made me laugh, thank you!! Nevertheless, good luck for the challenge...

ten. creativity conquers all.

People are just not going to get that a dog smelling out \"road sign\" is important to the search effort of missing or criminal individuals! Good for you for thinking out of the box. Unfortunately, I predict you will not do so well. :(
Nice aspect/angle. A bit too out of focus, even in the areas that should be .. not talking about DOF. Good try! Great effort!

Paul Rogers? Looks like his beagle. Cute shot.

I don't think that your camera can focus this close to the subject. Plus, it's not actually anything to do with road signs is it?!
01/23/2003 04:10:51 PM
Does this have anything to do with the challenge?
01/23/2003 06:20:53 AM
I apreciat in your submission that it is very consequent: because it's quality is not good at all (focus, contrast, light etc.) I assume that it should be seen more as a joke, not intended to score high or address dog-lovers.
And as a joke -only be understood on this site- it's great. Acctually I missed a good dog nose in the last challenge.
I hope my interpreatation is correct. However, I will not vote it high.

Come on. Usually I can find a way to qualify a cute pet photo and score it fairly high. But there is no way I can twist this to say it meets the challenge. And with the focus I can not give it a high score. Course I figure you knew this in the beginning but wanted to submit something. So here's your 2.
01/22/2003 12:45:58 PM
There's always one....
01/22/2003 11:29:30 AM
I'm not sure if this was a mistake, but obviously it's not meeting the challenge.
01/22/2003 02:50:33 AM
If you were trying to subit a photo which is totally unrelated to the challenge, you succeeded. 1 md

Don't understand connection with signs. Little blurry.
01/21/2003 03:52:45 PM
Would this be the bassett hound sniffing a road sign? (I just don't see any trace of a road sign in this picture, brave to submit, but I feel sorry for the score you are getting.) The dog's nose is just too close, it makes for a fun/silly shot, but photo technically, it's not good. Very sad eyes. Best I can go is a 3. Swash

I see no relevance to the current challenge with this photo, though it is cute. On my monitor the photo is somewhat dark, and to me it looks quite fuzzy; there seems to be no part of the photo that is in good focus.
01/21/2003 01:29:04 AM
I am a little confused as to why this shot is in the road signs competition.
01/21/2003 12:22:11 AM
So, was it damp? No doubt you are copping the "this isn't a road sign" type comments. I like the b&w effect and I like the soft focus. It's an aggressive crop but it works ok.
01/20/2003 10:10:44 PM
Huh?
01/20/2003 07:51:45 PM
I think you meant to submit this to the "Cute Dog Nose" challenge, which is next week. :)
01/20/2003 07:10:02 PM
not sure I get this.....okay he's cute anyway. Beagle?
01/20/2003 04:55:12 PM
Can't really see a road sign in this photo. Am I missing something?
01/20/2003 03:09:58 PM
I'm sure I won't be the only one with this comment this time: Huh?
01/20/2003 03:07:21 PM
I have a photo of a sign you need . It say's (Dog Trot )
01/20/2003 11:03:16 AM
I think I get it... maybe it would be a better fit if this were the fire hydrant challenge? hehe
01/20/2003 10:49:32 AM
?
01/20/2003 08:54:10 AM
Perhaps I'm being thick, but how does this dog relate to road signs?
01/20/2003 07:29:22 AM
Exactly how is this a road sign???? Does not meet challenge in any way!!!
01/20/2003 03:04:17 AM
Did you put this here by accident?
01/20/2003 01:53:52 AM
Couldn't find a road sign? Oh, he is on the road looking for sign!! ;-) Cub
01/20/2003 01:50:11 AM
I have no idea how this relates to street signs
01/20/2003 01:21:48 AM
An interesting interpretation of a "road sign" hehe... I can understand where you were coming from, kinda.. maybe you mean the wetness of the nose for the sign of how healthy your dog is? -Annida
01/20/2003 01:15:58 AM
¿¿¿???
01/20/2003 12:50:15 AM
*lmao* you are SO brave
01/20/2003 12:20:25 AM
i'm sorry but I must give this photo a 1. this photo would do good in another challenge it just doesn't meet the challenge. I made a new scoring system for myself and the only way to get a one is to submit a photo which is off the topic. Sorry again
