[Mar. 20th, 2014 05:56:08 PM]

Yes, Mondrian is what (and who) I had in mind for this challenge. It was the day before rollover and I was with Alessia, my niece. I was helping her with her graduation paper - next week she will get her degree in foreigner languages (I got the same in 2001) and I mentioned the Primary colors challenge: "I wanted to submit an image with bodypainting and Mondrian style but it's been a tough week taking photos for a magazine and moreover who can I find for a task like that?!". She immediately asked: "me!". I didn't even ask her since I knew she was busy with her university stuff. But she absolutely wanted to try. She helped me getting a few ribbons, but never able to get a blue and this is a sort of "spot" in her DPC career.

The following day we began painting at 1 am. (rollover at 5am. now). Her mother Anita and I did the job - red and black lines for me, blue and yellow for Anita. It took almost 2 hours to finish.

I knew that at least I didn't have to waste time to edit it in the end :)

I used two studio flashes on the sides but not symmetrical - I wanted to draw the shapes of the muscles - and a special for the BG. I had another one to outline her body but it decided not to collaborate. Except for her hair, the image works better like this.

I set my camera to boost saturation and contrast and I like very much what I got without editing it.

Now fingers crossed - this time a blue would mean so much to me and Alessia :)

---

Thanks everyone for the great comments! I know it's not my first ribbon but it's surely one of the sweetest I got!

Lovely living art. Well posed, admirably decorated a la Mondrian. The textures add to the depth of the image. The lighting is also well done. I like how the slightly off-center pose and unlevel hands give dynamism to what could have been a static scene.

A living Mondriaan, very creative take on this challenge. And kudos to your model, must have been quite some work getting her like that.

I am often surprised with what entrants do for challenges. She is a very cooperative model! I'm imagining the process involved in getting ready for this and with the soap suds colors later. That would be an interesting series to shoot...the colors running off the body. Great effort!

Lot of effort in this one. Colors are vibrant. Added element of... Piet Mondrian.... Nice work on minimal rule set.
