 Post-challenge: Thanks everyone for the votes and nice comments. Had this idea as soon as the challenge was announced and figured I could get the kind of DPC-friendly shot that had a chance to do well. Wanted to shoot long to compress the car and Alcatraz. Yo Spiff is right about the tight frame but there were a lot of tourists and cars about so had to shoot pretty tight. Picked this frame mostly for the conductor in the back; they turn that crank furiously to help control the rear brakes as the car heads down the hill. And yep, those tourists hang on to the outside all the way down -- a great spot if you can get it!

Took a drive down to SF Saturday to shoot the cable cars. This shot was take on the Hyde Street hill at Lombard Street, where the car heads down the steep hill for the ride down to Fisherman's Wharf with Alcatraz off in the distance. Went with a thicker white border for this to evoke the postcard feel of this image.

Congrats on the ribbon. This was one of my three top picks and it was THE one that stayed in my mind later on. That looks like it would be a real roller coaster of a ride. Do those people travel hanging on or were they just boarding?
