Taken at my mother-in-laws in MN over the Christmas holidays. The sun was doing very interesting things in the sky behind some clouds, so I ran out with the camera, hoping to get horses and sun in the same shot.

Do you think it cooperated?

No!!

I did have a strictly sun coming through a winter sky:

or

But I found them much more boring. It didn't think people would find the entry particularly solstice related, but it was such an overcast, snowy day -- definitely the deep and dark December, type day. Lows were down to -22 on one or two nights. And that's not the wind chill.

It's nice to be back in Virginia. The High at my mom-in-laws on Monday is forecasted to be -12!

The days may be getting longer, but not necessarily warmer yet.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments!

(regarding his color -- it was processed on the old laptop, on which I usually fail miserably at processing. However, I didn't adjust his color -- this color came about by bumping the contrast a bit too much. He really does have a gorgeous red to his coat. The contrast brought it out a bit too much, but not a lot.

Btw, did you know that humans aren't the only creatures that like to catch snowflakes on their tongues?

Nice capture of the falling snow. Not easy to do. I like the use of the trees to frame the image on the right. I'd hang this on my wall.

The emerging horse is beautiful, the slender branch is magically highlighted and an optical illusion, too. I like this very much.
