first day of shooting was monday evening to get the portrait done, i used rembrandt lighting and then realized afterwards that you wouldn't be able to see it after all the photoshop.

next day on my break i printed out on six pieces of paper, cut and taped all together, then drove an hour to the correct location where we shot- and my flash failed.

really appreciate the comments and votes!! thanks to all

That is actually incorrect, it might have been the case in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but was not the case in the actual book. He looked at it many times.

I guess you should have voted higher ;-)

Of course, if you want to look at inaccuracies, in the book he was younger (about 20) and blond as well, but either way, it is still a very good representation of the story. I think this is very well done. I really like how you represented his 'ugliness' in the painting.

(Know that I only vote in even numbers.)

An eight for you. Good storytelling, and it leaves something to the imagination. I'm not a huge fan of staged shots, but I do rather like this.

This image has a nice, almost mysterious atmosphere, makes me think of a Hitchcock B&W movie. Great picture!

ah. you went for it. possibly too literal, maybe even too ambitious. 5

Very nicely done. A few small nitpicks: the hands are a little odd -- flat and blown? And the arch coming out of the head in the mirror is odd and very distracting. I wish it wasn't centered on the head. Just a little to the left or right and it would have been much better. That being said, it's one of my favorites in the challenge. -9-

Great photo. I like the composition and the lighting. My one criticism is the door frame on the left. Cropped out with maybe a little of the guy's back cropped out too would have made this a little better.

Gave it an 8

Comment Challenge: This is such a great image on so many levels. I love the three incarnations - the real, the reflection, and the portrait. I love the use of the arched alcove above the reflection's head. Very nice monochrome.

6...kudos for sticking to the actual story. The one thing I find could use some work is the lighting. It's a bit too harsh and one directional...like an on camera flash. Some natural window light would have lent a great deal of atmosphere and mood.

Seems like a clip from a movie but it's not convincing enough. It has all the elements but lost the pathos , the poignancy, the scream - perhaps it narrates too much. It seems too even. The shadow that appears is too shy, it should have loomed over everything perhaps.
I applaud though your effort and work. 5

Extraordinary.

A story is told, and it evokes the novel perfectly.

My only 10 of the challenge.

Well done.

A great interpretation, this selection really does benefit from a real model in the shot. Props are great, the use of mono very supportive of the novel theme. I would have cropped the right a lot closer to the model but that's only a minor issue. Good work.8.

This is good. I would have tried to crop differently on the right . The light (flash) on the character (not the reflection in the mirror is a bit harsh but still OK. My first 7 so far

wow, this is quite the elaborate set up. Your processing and costumes does invoke the period. I really like the face in the window. Negatives? Well, the composition is not imaginative, making the whole thing seem like an exercise to meet the topic instead of something independent. 6

This is another of the shots in this challenge that not only matches title but story, and in a way that brings it to life. I'm blown away by the setup, and the inclusion of the painting in particular. 9

This is fabulous. The grain adds so much to this.

A good idea here. I like how he's looking at himself and holding a picture of what is supposed to be him.
But I don't like the grainy look. I think if the mirror was "cleaner/crisper" but the rest grainy, that may have been interesting? I dunno.
Gave this a 5

This is very well worked. It feels utterly *period*, which is critical. Fits the book like a glove. Well done! The shadow on the wall in the center bugs the HELL out of me, and some vignette upper right might be useful, but other than that this is 100% "GO" and I'll give it an 8.

Very nice capture, what a story! You can't help but wonder what he is seeing when he looks at himself in the mirror..and how does he relate himself to the man in the picture. Very thought-provoking!
