 Ever since I saw the SCAR project, I've wanted to try for a worthy picture. I cringe a tiny bit at this, not so much that my scars show, but that it is emotionally revealing. I laugh and make many "boob" jokes, but inside there is a shame, I know that isn't justified. I think you just have to have been there to understand.
My aim at this shot is for women not to be ashamed of what their breast cancer has done to them physically, but to know they have sisters out there, willing to share with them our body image and hopefully that it should not be as scary or embarrassing as what one would imagine.

PS... Ladies that might be facing mastectomies, They look GREAT under clothes, ya don't have to wear a bra any more, and When I'm 90 everything else may fall but my boobies are gonna be perky!!! (sorry the stuff above was getting entirely too serious) Also just FYI my implants are saline, it's been 11 years, I've smashed em a couple of times from horsey falls, but they take a lickin' and keep on tickin' :)

This image is beautiful! I give it a 15 on a scale of 1 to 10. (for the following reason)
The image is artistic, creative and very nicely processed/it is a perfect example of photojournalism as it documents a sign of our times, it is very difficult to cover both aspects in an image. This is what makes for great photography, I know it is hard when it comes from your core, thats what makes it moving for the viewer.
An unforgettable photograph! Hats off to you!!!

WOW, Katie! What an image. I knew you'd had breast cancer but didn't know you'd had a double mast. Had to laugh at your descrip of the result of what happens when tossed rider meets ground...owww..
