Critique Club Review

It's hard to find anything here to recommend to improve. This is just a really outstanding photo. Any less sky, and you would lose part of the sunset. Perhaps the only possible improvement I would suggest here, is that if the photographer had waited another minute or two to take the picture, the rays of the sun coming over the tops of the hills in the distance might have been even a bit more pronounced. Then again the whole effect could have dissapeared, I wasn't there.

For a cloudless sky, this is just a terrific job on all accounts. Composition, exposure, contrast, color rendition, focus, all are excellent.

Well done!

I like the detail of the ripples in the water, and the subtle beams of sunlight over the horizon look great! 8

A very striking photo. The composition on this is pretty good, though a little less sky might have benefitted the image. Adjusting the levels might have brought out some of the colors a little more as well. but all in all a great photo. 8 md

Very nice, but I don't think the border works with this pic since there are too many areas where it seems to become the photo, and then it becomes a border again. Try another color or lose the border altogether. This will stand alone just fine without one.

Great picture. I really like how warm the suns rays look coming over that rock. I would have cropped the bottom off. It doesn't add anything to the pic. It's almost contrary to where the picture is going being so dark. Good job! - Inspzil

Beautiful shot, love the composition, lighting and reflections as well as the dark landscape against the flaming sky. The only thing I would change about this shot is a bit less grain in the sky. 9

OK, who was out there and didn't take me along?! The rays of the sun are wonderful, I've not seen that before, I bet your opportunity didn't last long. I love the rocks and water and the curving in and out of each other, very dramatic and beautiful.

Gorgeous picture! (Personal note: this is the second great Washington shot with NO clouds! You're attracting people!! Remember, it rains here EVERY day!!!) I got nothing bad to say about this, just great shot. 9 Swash

WOW look at that colour. Excellent capture of nature at it's best. I love the reflection off the water as well as the beautiful orange colour of the sun. Beautiful image and it certainly meets this weeks challenge. GL.

I know this mountain range very well. I've taken numerous photos of it. The colors, shapes and contrast in their simplicity make this a stunning shot. A great combination of abstract and landscape. It may be slightly oversharpened but not too bad. It is very lovely. 9

Excellent image! I believe the esposure on this one is perfect. The subtle rays of light above the horizon add a really nice effect to this photo. Your horizon line below the mountains is also nice and level... kudos on a fine shot :) = 10 - setzler

I would prefer that there be more tonal seperation in the foreground boulder between it and it's reflection in the water. Without more detail in the rock, it looks like a black blob in the middle of your picture. Also, would prefer a landscape photo such as this not have any border, especially one so thick and black, as this limits the mind's eye from imagining that the scene stretches indefinitely. I do like the color of the sunset, and the background hills, though.

Top half of this is beautiful. I would personally crop off in the middle of the large black mass. I don't think the bottom water adds much - it just detracts from the drama of the top where the colors and silhouettes are so strong.
