 The African Wattled Lapwing (Vanellus senegallus) (formerly Wattled Plover), a seldom seen but not endangered species of bird in Southern Africa. This one was warming himself in the early morning winters sun and did not hold this pose for long once I stopped the car and started shooting. Outside temperature was hovering around 4°C (39.2°F). Such an unusual shot can only be achieved by rising at 4am and driving to the wildlife reserve in the dark to get the timing and light perfect, and hoping there's something photogenic waiting for you!

Not sure why some birds stand on one foot. I'll try find out on Saturday when I head back to the reserve with a group of friends/photographers for a private guided tour.
