Wow!
Thanks for all of the comments everyone!!!
This was almost not submitted, (glad i changed my mind)
The original idea for wacky foods was this:
imagine... a perfect swirled soft serve ice cream cone....chocolate sprinkles... but the catch is: the chocolate sprinkles are actually ants covering the whole ice cream! YUCK
logistically, that shot is not very easy at all! (try to keep the icecream frozen while putting ants on it) so the idea of crisco squirted through a frosting thingy for cakes, with liquid sugar sprayed over the whole thing...

to much!

this was a very simple shot. catch 1 grasshopper, refrigerate for 20 minutes, take chopsticks and LOTS of red lipstick, point 1 flash at the ceiling, the other at the white background, and come up with a title that explains the photo, and VOILA!

Thanks again everyone!

Well in the wacky foods department, I think you nailed it with your presentation here! The image definately makes one do a double take. The aesthetically pleasing reds (which is a color shown to increase metabolism and inspires hunger which is why it is/has been used in kitchens & dining rooms -I watch too much HGTV:-) ) really contrasts with the unappealing thought of eating a bug. I love how the red tones really pop visually off of the white backdrop. You have captured some wonderful image details from the textures and gleam on the lips to the details on the body of the grasshopper. My only critique I have on this is that I am not to overly fond of the blown highlights on the facial skin seen just above the lip. While it does keep the image clean & simple by not adding another color hue that could distract from the reds it still doesn't look quite right. I don't know what the F-stop or shutter speed was but mayhap a slight adjustment there would have avoided the blown highlights in the skin in the top portion. Hmmm, or possibly even slightly adjusting the angle of the flash that you have pointed at the ceiling to illuminate all objects evenly.

Photographic talent aside, the use of "Thai" as part of caption was misleading as they don't eat such stuff in their normal diet (living there for seven and half years now as expat and never seen such things served in any Thai restaurants - perhaps the Chinese in southern China ie., Guangxi, Yunan, Guangdong do!)

Congratulations on the blue! Given another 1/2 second you would have scored even higher. I had bumped you to a 10 (and removed the Librodo guess- LOL), but I hit the update button just as the server switched over and it didn't go through. ;-)

I love the red. This is a great photo, the only thing I don't like is the grasshopper, and that is only because they are the most annoying insect ever, I wish you lots of luck for this photo. ~10

Excellent and lethal technique use here to scare the hell out of the casual voter. The composition is great although not as delectable as the sensuos lips would have us believe. There are not many in this site that can accomplish this type of shot. What is that white goop on the lower lip? Previous crunch results. lol

Overall good concept and execution. I know you wanted a high key effect here and it looks good. I think that there may no be enough mouth showing, and that's why it feels out of balance to me. - 7

Looks like a ribbon...I know lots of people will find this disgusting, but hey, that's life, right? The only thing I fing distracting about this is the amount of wetness on the lips, especially bottom center, other than that, I think this is the winner. I'm giving you my 10.

Excellent color and arrangement. I think maybe such a striking image would have greater effect if there was a bit deeper depth of field. The far side of the mouth seems a bit too soft for the otherwise attention-grabbing photo. Great job nonetheless.
