 I won the Simplicity challenge - I can tell you now, I ain't winning the complexity one :-)

I wanted to be complex in thought and intention, rather than in purely figurative terms; though of course it's a complex image, with the reflection of the train's interior and my laptop in the window. Something mournful, disspiated perhaps. I've tried to keep the reflected interior of the train a more poisonous orange than a warm cheerful colour, as that suits the mood, and of course I've exaggerated the threat in the sky - it wasn't that bad a day, exactly.

It isn't really dodged and burnt - I don't find those tools useful, but rather whole areas are selected using various means, and the processed by whatever means necessary to get the increase in contrast and luminance required. Added some uniform noise at around 5% to give the grainy feel, hopefully without feeling digital - though the inevitable jaggies on the wires are a bit of a shame - though perhaps unavoidable at this resolution.

Of course, it's probably highly unlikey to do well - there are about four unspoken dpc rules that I've infringed here, are there not?

Look at the rails and sleepers, the white fence, the reflected seat pattern, the gate to image left - all the same structure of crossed lines.

Provocative image in that it forces exploration. Well made. A ghosted interior reflection layered on glass over the twilight lit view - a simple idea - contempletive - beautiful, thoughtful snap from your commuter routine, my favorite of the challenge.

This was one of my favorite images in the complexity challenge. I gave it a 10! It screams COMPLEX and it sure should have scored higher. But who give a damn about the score, right?! This image rocks and while it might not fit the typical DCP tastes, it's still a winner. Good job!

atmospheric shot..would have been nicer to have a more recognisable reflection. Midlands? Makes me think of.......' a selection of hot and cold beverages is available in the buffet car situated towards the front of the train'.

i think this is my fav photo of all. I really like the mood and the reflection. It has a 50's feel to it. nice burning nice colors...... great image. I hope it does well...

I don't know if others will like this shot, but I love it. I keep coming back to it, trying to see if I can see anything in the reflection. The grain as well as the darkness add to the image. I could easily see this photo on the cover of some novel.

What sets this image apart from most others is that it conjures up a complex set of questions about what you intended by taking this image. The possibilities are practically endless... There is great complexity in this shot and it is an exceptionally fine image. Kudos to you.

I like this shot. It's very poetic and out of the box. The colors are moody and there is enough complication in the picture to match the the fantastic title.

Did you shoot this through a window?
Usually shots done that way look cheap and ameturish, but this seems to work very well.
