what can i say?...ive shot nothing but brides this month. And the poor challenge needed some entries! I have no expectation that this will do well. Its simply one of many images from this shoot that I played with this week. I do not think this is my "best" shot. Im having difficulty with the concept of having a best shot. Ive reached a point where all of my images become one big blur. I can not judge my own work. I have no idea when clients will be pleased or unhappy with the results. Everyone is different...with different tastes. Im just taking pictures and playing with them. This is why I enter the challenges. To get an idea of how I might be doing. To see another photographers perspective of an image. To see which technical flaws stand out. I have never found technical perfection in my own work...im not sure it is possible to achieve. How can one define perfect? I do not see photography as a set unwavering standard to live up to. Like life, it is in a constant flux of growth and change. I see photography as the art of expressing life.

Do not ever take the 'perfect shot', because all art is a quest: a journey into the infathomable, and the divine!
I adored this picture..for the almost surrealistic use of 'white'...its so...so impure, an yet...so 'perfect'...and therein lies its profundity: the 'overstatement'...the 'dream of every bride', for 'forever and a day'. Brides are like babies.....lol..they all loom the same..except when your eye ravishes them and feasts on them. Go girl!!!!

Good exposure - difficult with so much white.

Excellent control of tones in the high-key areas, emotive pose. I've used that kind of faded white border myself, so I'm glad to see someone else use it.

Will you take my wedding pictures! This is one lucky bride to have this capture of her special day. Good job. 10

I'm not really too impressed. The border is distracting. I can't really see the brides faces. her shape is unflattering in this pose and although on the surface it appears "Artsy" the background is wierd and the symmetry is distracting.
but... what do I know-our wedding was mostly black adn white journalistic candids showing emotion. There may be some symbolism here that i am missing. good luck.

Very well done. What a challenge to have the beautiful bride standout from the background. I like they way you blended into the transistion of the framing.

Desaturation round the bride is unnecessary I think or it's a bit too much. I don't know how the original looks like, but her face could be sharpened a bit also. It is blurred due to resizing probably. I like her hair in motion.

Great picture – clean and the colors and the white foreground works really well together.

Beautiful composition and the whites really shine, you got them right on. Tthe greens are very deep and rich and contrast very well with the whites. PP was also done well and really gives the image a dreamy effect. Any bride would love a picture like this to add to the album or hang on the wall. Very well done. 10

Nice bridal portrait, I normally don't like this type of border but it works for this particular shot 9

Great full-length shot of the bridal down. Maybe a tighter crop would show off the dress more?

Great color, high key, soft focus, and vignette. It all combines to really capture the bride and the dreamlike sense of joy on the big day.

Nice idea to use the columns to frame the bride. Very nice pose, as well. Seems a bit tilted to the left. The feathered edge in combination with the thin white border seems to clash a bit. I would have done one or the other. This might also look good as a duotone or selective desat. 7

Breathtaking. What a great use of white.

Strong points: You've done a great job of coping with the bald white sky. By introducing lots of white from the flloor and the columns - you mitigated the terrible sky. Pose is excellent. I'm not much of a fan of the fading borders - but this is one that works well. Exposure could not be better - a real task with all the white.

What a pretty shot, the framing of the bride, the pose, the lighting. The way you lightened around the edges is well done but around her head is just a bit too light, she almost ends up blending into the background there. A 9

10!! Fabulous picture. I love the fading on the sides, it really does draw the viewer into your beautiful subject.

Oh, she came out wonderful, and the columns are framing her perfectly, but the too-white borders make this overkill, in my humble and inexperienced opinion! To be frank (no, that's not my name!) it looks like a white poison gas cloud coming in...ha, sorry! I love HER though, the implied movement, the joy, it's a lovely shot! Thanks!

Lovely composition. A beautiful memory for the bride. I'm not crazy about the white faded border though. A little too much for my taste. Otherwise, and excellent image.

Very nice bride portrait with a very romantic atmosphere. Postprocessing with the dissolving border is over the top for my taste, but fits very well with the overly romantic atmosphere one tries to create on a wedding day.

Maybe to much fade to white in the center. I like the effect on the sides, but would like the bride to stand out more against the background.

I personally don't like the fading border. Just seems a little out of place somehow. I also seem to fight between viewing the subject and viewing the background. It's nicely framed, the pose is wonderful. I'd have liked to have seen a closer crop and a tighter shot on the subject, to help us see her face and expression better. 7

Definitely should be in the wedding album. Very nice composition. I like the framing of the bride with the white pillars. Maybe could have been cropped in a little so you can see her facial expression better. Makes it more personal.

Whoever's wedding you shot this for must be thrilled for this wonderful photo. I love the vignette effect here, which works very well with the high key posts and sky. It ooks like she may be slightly underexposed and could use a little more light on her, but it's hard to tell because she's presented so small here. Overall, excellent, in my top 5 list for this challenge.

very nice high key bridal shot. I love the toning of the plants and trees behind her and the way she is holding her veil. The pillars compete somewhat with the bride as main focal point ratyher than framing elements but the image is nicely balanced overall.

I like the softness of the composition. Great idea placing the subject between the white pillars. The rest of the background acts as a great backdrop to cause me to focus on the subject. Great job. I gave you an 8.

i love the title and the positioning of your subject, composition is also stunning however there is alot of white within this photo and IMHO i feel that there is too much white.... it would provide a greater contrast and create a focus on your subject if the trees remain their deep shades however being of a dreamy nature i can understand the use... i just feel both the border the dress, poles, floor and sky provide enough for that ... and if increasing the tone in the trees it would create a much more vivid image
gr8 photo overall though and wonderful execution... congratulations on a gr8 shot

This is a good photo, it does a good job of telling a story. I don't like where the white blur happens around the trees and flowers though. 6

This is a good shot. My only comment is one of personal taste. The soft white irregular border is something that doesn't add to the photo for me.

This is a beautiful bridal portrait....my eye keeps going to the bottom of the photo though because that is where everything is in focus...the soft white in front of her head is not working for me....But I am sure this is a potrait that she is going to cherish forever. 9

returning for comments.

Everybody wants to look at the bride but this is just a tad too far. The composition is strong because the framing of the pillars adds stability and her active pose with hand extended and hair flying adds great interest. The fade out is too sudden but this is simply a matter of opinion. Bumping up on visual strength.

While I like the surreal effect here, it might be a tad overdone on the edges. It isn't noticeable on the top of the frame, but the green fading the white isn't quite as powerful. I think this would look great cropped to a portrait orientation, framed by the white columns. In that way, the 'mist' might look more natural. A great shot though. Very emotive.

I love the lightness, the symetry the overall composition. The bride is beautifully posed to sho off her beautiful train and her beautiful face. I think it is slightly overexposed and I don't care from the fog effect on the sides of th photo very much, I think it's because it's too square but on the other hand, it give the feeling of floating in the clouds. If I was this bride, I'd hug you for days for this photo. 8

This picture is very nice: The white dress, the white pillars and floor. But the transparent white border thing is um not my style. Other then that it does have a dreamy atmosphere so I guess using it here isn't completely bad (6).

I like the blown out sky and good exposure on all the whites, its a very romantic photo. The one thing I don't really like is the white fade around the edges. I think cropping with each edge half way through one of the pillars would be good too, letting us see more of the bride :) 7

beautiful, only slight point for me if the light on the trees around her head, can't really specify why, but it just does not seem quite right, but this is only a slight distraction in an excellent pic - well done!
