When this was announced I struggled. It was a process getting to this image. I generally like thinks sharp (too often over sharpened). To purposely have the subject out of focus goes against my instincts. However, I can be comfortable with some motion blur on the subject as long as other elements are sharp. That thought lead me to the idea of shooting my out of focus daughter framed in the focused panes of glass in our back door. The back yard did not add much, so I thought to add the umbrella. The umbrella lead to the idea to add water to the window panes. This was key for me -- adding a nice texture to the out of focus subject. Fortunately, this all evolved quickly before my model lost interest in helping me out. Thank you, daughter.

Such a clever concept. Had ribbon written all over it. I'm glad it did well.

Just lovely, Mark. Both the image and your daughter. I might have cropped out the upper, partial panes, but this was clearly good enough to earn a ribbon, as is :)

Very nice framing of the subject. I like the rain adding to the feeling of out of focus

I really like this one. I think I would have cropped it to the top part of the top section to draw more attention to the girl, but I still really love the photo.
