I had a lot of fun shooting this one--thanks to Chris, John and Paul for posing for this!

I screwed a few things up here, namely blowing out the whites on the guy on the left. This is lit with 1 large octabox on camera-left, and I didn't have enough room to move it farther away to even out the light. I also was unable to process this in a way to make it look more painterly. I tried several filters and overlays, using different blend modes and opacities and while some looked OK, they all seemed to degrade the image to where I didn't like it. I think at a higher resolution I could have used something more effectively.

On the plus side, this was my first attempt at painting hair on someone--I'm the guy with his back to the camera and I have pretty short hair, so I used some custom hair brushes and painted my hair on. It's kind of a mullet for Biblical times but I think it worked out nicely.

Overall, I'm happy with the score and my placement in a challenge with such outstanding competition. Thanks to all for the votes and comments!

I googled your title to see what would come up--thanks for using that title. I was reminded that photorealism as a genre of painting has a very long tradition (way before the word was coined). IMO you used the light very well to create a painting, my first impression of this was not a photograph, even in the thumbnail size it looks like a 17th century oil painting. Good job!

Really nice setup and light. The is very photogenic, rather than painting like, which may be hurting you. For me, I could see this done as a detailed painting.

Great effort on the setup and you simulated Caravaggio's lighting very well; However, as much as I admire your attention to detail, I miss the final painterly touch to meet the spirit of the challenge. 8

Like my entry, this will probably get the "It's not a painting" comments? Looks too realistic to be a painting? etc.
Bah humbug, there are many works where they are almost photographic in clarity and quality. Here's an 8 for not overcooking the Photoshop Paint Filters like some :)

Very nicely executed but the light could have a been a bit softer and more diffused perhaps. Now it's just a tad too bright and harsh especially on the whites. I find it's not so much painting like but more photo realism or photo art. 7

WOW! Is de Sousa back?? Just comparing with the original - the hands needed more careful placing as they are important, nevertheless great work!
