Took the kids to the zoo and even though we have a membership and I've shot all the animals many many times, you always see something you've never seen before. My youngest likes to watch the elephants so as I was letting her get her fill, this young female started eating grass on the other side of her retaining wall. It was definitely fun to watch she'd stretch as far as she could then raise her back leg for balance, stretch a little more and finally get to that "greener patch of grass" on the other side.

Since grain was the flavor of the day, I decided that this shot might look good in a black and white with some heavy grain to give it a nostalgic look. I'm not usually a border kind of guy but i used the preset in lightroom to try and give it an old photo feel.

I'm very pleased that Don felt that this was worthy of a
I feel accomplished now.

Completely agree about the tire, I mentioned to wife that it was almost like it was placed perfectly to be revealed once the elephant executed her "heel pop" as my 6 yr old described it.

oh, and also look how those two elephants blend together. That almost never works, visually, but here it becomes two aspects of the same elephant... and look how the one elephant is stretching so much her face is blurred.

there's an absurd perfection to the composition, exemplified by the tire, completely extraneous yet perfectly placed.

Voted earlier, bumping up, and coming back to comment.

Great capture of action! I love how you captured the one elephant in the act of leaning over to retrieve or get something from the little gully below. The B&W, and the grain, and even the framing makes this feel like this is an old photograph pasted into a memory photo album. A pleasant memory of a day at the zoo watching the elephants.

Simply delightful! Like kids daring each other. Not especially sold on the border but it doesn't change my enjoyment of the photo.
