An infrared shot using nightshot mode of my camera, with IR pass filter (Heliopan RG 780) and ND8 filter.

This was a quick shot on the way home after a more planned shoot, but I really liked the result. Especially the enormous scale of the tree and clouds compared to the small golfer walking towards the green.

Postprocessing :
* neatimage
* levels on each color to move from the green IR nightshot to an almost B&W image.
* convert to B&W using channel mixer.
* add a slight blue hue using hue/saturation
* rotate 2 degrees and crop
* resize, unsharp mask, save for web

Awesome shot. The B/W is very effective in showing the cold. 8

WOW, Beautiful! I love the color, so peaceful. The difference in size between the tree and the person is so powerful. This must be a golf course in heaven! lol (10) Good luck...

I'd imagine this is what playing golf under a nuclear winter sky would look like! I really enjoy this different perspective, very nice job. 8

Beautiful. Is this IR?

Nice infrared, I like the clouds. nice color tone and the vignette adds to the image imo. A top 10 image in this challenge imo.

I will look forward to reading your details... I've been wanting to dabble in infrared for a long time - it's shots like this one that make me want to go find a filter and give it a go. Stunning sky, amazing mood, and I love the slightly blue monochrome. Fantastic.

A beautiful image with this giamt tree as the subject and the human evidence to give a sense of size. This is great. The sky is simply fabulous. Yes, the title indicates a golf course, seems such beauty should never be made available to any sport. Bumping up two notches.

Love infrared dreamscapes. The golfer is a nice touch. It makes the viewer realize that this is actually summer shot. Nicely balanced tones.

Excellent image. I would've probably cropped more of the lower part of the image (under the tree), but I'm not sure really. The sky is great and desaturation gave it real "winter look".

I really love the tones in this image. It kind of feels like an Ansel Adams work. Looks like some skilled dodging and burning.

Beautify scene (with a touch of humor) tells the story of golf craziness set against inspired scenery :) One of my ribbon picks because of all the little extras (clouds, person, flagpole, tree, composition... all great)

Use of infrared makes the golf course look like it's covered in snow. Interesting effect. Although I can easily make out the flag marker and the golfer with his bag, I see the big tree and impressive sky as a main focal points and then see the golfer and course as secondary elements. 5

Looks like near-IR to me... nice shot, good tree detail... I would have liked to see some more detail on the grass, but it's hard to get that when shooting with such a dark filter. Cloud pattern is very cool. I really like the composition with the strong lines of the treeline and cloud patterns.

Infrared photography isn't everyone's cup o' tea, but I like the effect. It looks like hoarfrost all over the trees and ground. Your point of view works pretty well, and so does your cropping. Nice work. 8

A great IR shot - golf shots are very hard due to being flat, but this is quite well done.

I would have positioned it so that the flag was more alone - at the moment it is getting caught up with the tree.

I didn't know Ansel was a golfer!! That tree and sky is so superbly captured. I would love to shake Nature's hand...and yours, too, okay, sorry hahah. I'm very impressed with this...I wish I was wherever this was taken. I'm waiting, impatiently, for the snow. Thanks for a taste...tease!
10/03/2004 04:00:37 PM
Gorgeous image. Infrared? 9
10/03/2004 03:44:26 PM
great sky, a touch too burned maybe ;I like the tree but I think there may be too much detail in the shot, too much straining to see what it is you are looking at, and what is that under the tree? Oh yeah, and where is it snowy in spetember? hmmmmm?

Wow, thought it was snow at first. What a great application of IR... one of the best I've ever seen. The clouds and the tree are what make this shot so 'wow'. Love the scale of the golfer. Nice duotone, the blue really complements the effect. The background trees add a diagonal element, nice touch. Superb! 10

10/03/2004 12:24:28 AM
either infrared or a nuclear winter. for your sake I'll hoping for the IR. :) Neat shot...makes the clouds really pop. not sure how well the DPC crowd will receive it, but i think it's good. I lost the flag though...it took a minute to see it. love the repeating lines inthe clouds and trees. very nice.

The trees and clouds are so spectacular that I find the tiny person, flag, and bench distracting. Other minor nits to pick are the vignetting and apparent tilt to the horizon.

Sweet. I love the clouds and the tree is perfect.

Nice, dramatic clouds. Love the IR treatment. My only beef is that it appears noticably rotated to the left.. Details, I know... But important details.

I really like the mood and composition otherwise..

Wow, absolutely gorgeous! Upon first glance, I thought everything was covered with snow. The only small nitpick I have with this is the placement of the flag, but it still gets a 10 from me. Good luck!

I would like to know more about how this was taken when the challenge is over. I want to know more about where it was taken, the type of tree, the time of day, etc. This is beautiful! A 10!
10/02/2004 08:25:34 AM
Very nice picture. A bit tilted though. Not that I complain. I love the clouds and the LITTLE man. this is Infra Red isn't it. I love it

This is a lovely image. I am guessing top 3 for this one. 10.

great infrared shot. dramtic tree and dramatic sky. I like the small figure of the golfer providing scale. only problem is the horizon seems tilted to me.

Brrrrr, I mean forrrr. What a study of white. The blend of earth and sky is great. The row of trees in the background reaches on. The solitary golfer pressing on towards his goal...

One word... stunning!!!! 10!
10/01/2004 08:23:12 PM
Subjects much too distant and the horizon looks askew to me. That may be just the slope, but by studying the big tree it looks to also lean to the left. Interesting photo though. 6

10/01/2004 07:28:23 PM
I like the decision to use infra-red here. I also really like the negative space in the sky. In my eye, the portrait orientation showing a lot of the sky creates some tension in the shot - The tree and golfer appear to be the more important aspects of the shot. I would like to see this as a landscape shot, imho. I think the golfer is a great touch, showing the diminuitive size with respect to the tree, but I think he/she gets overpowered by the sky and tree combined.

so beautiful i'm in love
10/01/2004 12:55:28 PM
I really like the IR tones. Along with the deep DOF and very wide angle view, as well as, the miniscule appearance of the person and golf bag(?) the impact of this photo lies in how it conveys the immensity and scale of the space it presents. It does this in both the verticle and horizontal dimensions. Very well done. 8

10/01/2004 11:40:18 AM
Wow. Thought I was looking at a winter shot initially. Very dramatic effect created here. Lovely depth. Landscape features are sculpted nicely.
Colours create a "surreal" effect. I like it.

Woww, what a great shot. I just love the blue color and the atmosphere in this photo. Perhaps a little to much sky, but it looks so great that it doesn't make the shot bad.
You belong right here, in the master challenge.

Still an interesting shot

The is a great shot, infrared I guess? The toning is really efffective and the vignetting suits the photo wonderfully. My only gripe is that the horizon isn't straight, which makes the tree appear to not be straight either. Even if the horizon isn't straight in real life, I think straightening it in this photo would improve it. 9

personally i would say that you have a bit too much sky, a small cropping off the top IMHO would make a big difference, especially since the upermost areas of this photo are rather dark however overall gr8 photo and deffinitely deserves a gr8 placing

I think this is the first time I've seen a golf course in IR. I'm not a major fan of the effect personally unless it has real purpose which, because of the surreality of it, tends to be good for supernatural vibes or social statements, like pollution shots etc. I do quite like it when it's mixed with full colour though.

You've done it well and your shot is well composed.

I don't know if you tired, this but my only suggestion would be to clone out the flag as well as the bucket looking thing on the left next to the tree. But i love the lack of color. It's a really beautiful scenery and well composed.

Great sky and an incredible tree. I feel as if I would love to see it in natural color. It feels as if everything is leaning very slightly to the left, it may be the wind on the flag.

Fantastic! I never would have thought to try and turn a summer scene into Faux Winter. (Perhaps I just don't get out much). It's a great contrast with the golfer and course, and such a strong light.. the bluish tone just gives it a little something extra too.
