I want to submitt this image in a photographic competition.
Here is the brief:
EARTH SUFFERS - Human activities are detrimental to nature, the impact of man on the destruction of nature. Photographs on the exhibition should show the viewers how people negatively affects the planet earth, and that man's work is destroying our nature). We think on factories, plastics and anything other that destroys the nature.

I assume they are expecting more shots taken outside (factories, rubbish heaps that sort of thing.
I thought this was a bit "outside the box".

all comments very welcome, especially suggestions how to improve it.

Great idea Gaby. Some addition suggestions to give you scope and choices:
Get a really black perspex, something like Oliver would use 21.gif h2
Try a white perspex too.
I like the ideas of the vacuum packed earth, perhaps a zip lock bag might appear more industrial where the one you've used appears crunched and discarded.
Can you superimpose a dirty sooty smoke stack spewing scene or must it be a single shot? If you travelled to Sasolburg and shot the refineries in the BG? Or were allowed to use a shot of the refineries?
A market or street shot with 100's of people milling about OOF and blurred?

I like the concept, but like nam, I'm thinking a different background. Maybe sitting on a ledge overlooking a dirty skyline.

I wonder how this would work on a white background? And maybe think of a way to make the globe look more like a picture of the earth - less definition and more subtle colors, maybe. I do like the idea of sucking the air out of the bag so it clings tightly to the earth and them maybe using a form of the word suffocate in your title?

I agree with ambaker, I just don't see this as a strong image. I also think the bag pulled tighter would be better for telling the story.

I'm not seeing this as a strong statement of the earth suffering. I like the image, but I could see this as the bag protecting the earth as well. Is the earth suffocating in the bag? Or is it protected like a sandwich or loaf of bread? Perhaps pulled tighter like a suffocation scene from a murder movie?
