Photographer’s Notes

This was FUN!

I’m not that great at expert editing. But I didn’t want to do just a ‘straight’ egg. So I spent quite awhile looking around the Internet for something more interesting. I ran across a few images of Chinese tea eggs that looked interesting and I found instructions to make them. It took two shopping trips to get the ingredients and about an hour of prep and cooking.

In the end, they turned out just the way they were supposed to. I then took about 5 days of shooting in a makeshift home studio … working in the shooting between bouts at work and bouts of allergies.

In the end, I produced what I intended. Now it’s up to you dear voters to reward my efforts with a ribbon … or whatever else strikes your fancy.

I was tempted to title this Ripley’s Egg, the title is a nod to the Alien movies. The egg reminded me a bit of the monster eggs in the movies. But in the end I chose Martian Egg because the lines look like the ‘canals’ of Mars.

Now I'm off to eat my props!

Congrats on the red! I remember seeing the 'tea eggs' on the cover of Culinary Tea. Very interesting 'crackled' design and details on this egg.

It reminds me the Easter eggs my mother used to cook when I was young: she wasn't using tea, but onion skins in boiling water, with similar results. Ok, now I'm hungry ;) Congratulations on your ribbon, I am glad your hard work paid off!

Congratulations. It's nice when effort is rewarded. I like how the inside of the shell has a similar pattern - makes a great background.
