[Mar. 14th, 2013 11:29:36 PM]

Shocked this is hovering around 6 still after a couple of days voting. I told myself I was not going to enter either flavor since it was an open challenge and I always get creamed in those it seems. But then the minimal thing kept bugging me, especially after stinking up the light on white challenge...

So I set things up, threw on my old Braves cap (my wife keeps trying to wash it and I won't let her!), grabbed a (little league size) baseball from a bucket I still have in the basement and started posing.

I thought for sure none of them would come out and it's very hard to do this yourself when you cannot crop the shot in post.

I must have taken over 100 shots to try to get something that wasn't too cheesy or out of focus.

While I am somewhat ambidextrous, I'm not truly a lefty throwing the ball (though I tried when I was younger to teach myself to). However, that was the better angle for the light setup. My right hand is holding the camera remote as well as the reflector to fill in some shadows under the ballcap.

Had a second flash behind me for rim lighting and it seems to help. I like that my beard and cheek are in sharp relief to the background. The bright spot on my arm bugs me, but not much to do there in minimal.

Thanks for the kind comments and votes. 5 more day to go...

I thought this was very good, especially the perspective. I was thinking you looked like a major league player but could not think of his name and then read some of the comments; Mark Mcquire, that's it. Have always been a Braves fan even in their low years.

Had no idea this was yours, I gave you an 8, you did a good job!

I would have scored this higher if his face wasn't in shadow. I would have added a soft light up front or off to the side.

Voted earlier coming back to comment.

Love the 'freeze frame' of the action that is about to happen as he makes the pitch. Lighting and details are fabulous. The tilt of the head in this composition is also great because I get the sense of the wind-up of this incoming pitch. It is not static as a facing straight forward type shot but one that speaks action and intent.
