Bright and cheerful.

The angle and size of the light source on the rind appears to generate too much shine and we lose a lot of great detail.

It's a great idea to get closer to your subject! In this case, I like how you show us just 1/4 of the slice, it's very recognizeable and yet almost something that you don't know what it is.

I think the technicals are lacking a bit in this photo. First, you're going at it from a bit to the side rather than straight on. Maybe that's on purpose, but, to my mind it isn't a sharp enough angle to look intentional and thus ends up looking a bit like a mistake. Your light is a tad on the harsh side, The focus is very narrow, and on the front edge of the slice. Most everything else is a blur. Blur is lovely, but, as before, it is lovely when it is intentional and deliberate. When it looks like a focusing issue, then it looks not so good. Maybe try a higher f stop, or go a bit further back to get a greater area of sharpness. Make sure you focus in the middle of the area you want in focus (talking front to back). Make sure your lens front is parallel to the subject for maximum sharpness.

Anyway. Macro photography can be great fun, I hope you have fun trying stuff out.

Good color and edge texture.

I enjoy the contrast between the soft OOF flesh and the sharp skin. It gives a nice balance to the image. The colours and light is very good.

The lines keep leading my eye to the corner, where the middle of the fruit is, which is the blurry part. So I totally miss the fact that the rind is tack sharp, and notice that the edible part of the fruit is blurry.

For me the shallow DOF does work, with only the rind (the least attractive part for me) in focus. The lighting on the rind is indeed a little harsh.

Well, the lighting is a tad harsh but it sure brightens up my screen - like the sun came out as I have a large monitor - I am just getting into macro shots and you are increasing my desire to start practicing.

Extremely close and in your face. I'd like to see shot details, EXIF and camera/lens info. It is harsh and I prefer to see the cells in focus, not just the rind/skin.

I've not done one of these - I always like the translucency, no exception here. The texture of the skin is a nice contrast. How did you do this?

I like the detail in the slice of the lemon but I have to agree that the lighting is a bit to harsh.

There's something about this that doesn't quite work for me. I'm not sure if it's the angle or the bright white against the darker yellow.

Find the lighting and color a bit harsh.
