This is so not what I had planned!!
There's a little swampy area out by the ball fields with lots of tree stumps. I wanted a shot of tree stumps in water going out to infinity. I wasn't sure whether it was going to be just greys, or fire in the sky reflected in the water.
There's a naval base near here. I even though of putting a battleship, burnt and cracked in the background.
I gave up that idea pretty quickly, because it's far beyond my abilities. But it would have been cool!! :)
The there were going to be some bright, very large butterflies on some of the stumps. I kept thinking of the huge dragonflies of the late Paleozoic period -- with wing spans of 2.5 ft. I had the idea of beauty returning (I guess I wasn't the only one with that idea!! :)
Well -- I went to the swamp, walked down the embankment into the muck and started taking shots. It's a great swamp, but there was no way it was going to work!! The swamp was ringed by very large trees, and they all reflected in the water!! I'm not good enough at expert editing to fix the water, and the large tree reflections didn't fit in with the theme.
Next, I went to find butterflies, hoping for some large swallowtail types.
Nope.
Little painted ladies. And they wouldn't let me get very close.
I did get one pretty cool butterfly shot, though!
But it wasn't right for the challenge.
There was an awesome sky that morning, though:
So I came home hoping that everything was salvageable.
Nope.
It was as bad as I thought.
The only thing I liked was the sky.
So I played with the sky in color efex and voila! The fire was born. And with it the final idea. Completely and totally different than anything I had imagined. And of course, all done on the last day.
I really need to stop procrastinating.
Ah well, enough of this -- pet rock is due tonight, so I should probably go figure out something to do!
