I am not really fond of Rockwell's illustrations, but well, this challenge sounded like a good way to get some fun on a rainy Sunday. At this stage, I had no clear idea of the result I wanted to reach, but some studying convinced me I should depict a common situation yet somehow funny, use a light yellow-ish background (despite my personal preference for dark backgrounds), and simple but well saturated colors for the main characters. So my wife and I went for some shopping, and we found this old-looking apron, some red-squared fabric, and suspenders. From there, I remembered the home-made jam my mother gave us a few weeks before, and we agreed to shoot this "Making Jam" scene.

We tried to compose the photo so that both of our expressions were visible. The white background I used is not very wide, so the possibilities were a bit limited. We took about 50 shots, and simply chose the one were our faces looked convincing enough. I processed it during a couple of hours, and that was it.

Thank you all for your comments and votes! I'm glad some found it a bit funny. And thanks to my mum for the jam!

Still think it's a wonderful shot - an interpretation of NR's work instead of a remake.... congrats on fifth!

Congrats on the HM, Cristophe. Nice touch of humour - very Rockwellian image.

Perfect gestures and mimik art (especially the raised eyebrow of the "tester")! Would perhaps have covered the jam jars with cloth of a brighter colour to emphasize them

Cette image est typiquement française. Comment ça va la confiture?! J'espère que c'est vraiment bien!

back to me, the slightly blown highlight on your elbow and the off yellow of the background is a slight let down for your normal level of perfection. 8

Attention aux doigts Christophe!
Your wife is a riot!
(as a side note, perhaps a little grain would have taken it into a more Rockwellian realm)
well done!

one of my top two picks - obviously you've studied rockwell as you've got the colors, pose, subject matter, and for me (above all) the postures of the models which is SO important to his work. this is cracking and all done in advanced! ;)

You're just too french to imitate americans - which is good for you - but I doubt will be honored. I like the idea, but this seems to be excuted in a hurry, overall quite flat and lacks finesse.
