Critique Club Comment :o)

Composition:

This shot was probably taken perfectly level, but the change of colour to the water in the background means that the far bank is exaggerated, making it seem as though the shot has been rotated too much. Again, this feeling is emphasised by the reflection of the lefthand side bank in the water. The flowers in the foreground are nice, but the centre of the shot is taken up by the very dark trees, which overpowers the foreground.

Background:

This is a beautiful location, but to me the background to the shot (the lake/river, the mountains, and the sky) is more interesting than the foreground :o)

Camera Work:

Since the shot was done at ISO 80, I can only assume that the grainyness of it is due to the high compression / post processing. The focus of the shot feels slightly off too, as though this is a photograph of a reflection rather than of the real thing - easily corrected by sharpening in post-processing.

Post-Processing:

Since you've not provided any details, I can only guess at any post-processing work that you have done. The image has been saved to only 71Kb, which is less than half the maximum size - you should always try to get as close to 150Kb as possible, since you lose more detail to the compression the smaller the file is. Another suggestion (apart from those listed above) would be to adjust the levels and colour balance, as the colours of the foreground flowers are quite pale, yet the blues and greens are very bold, almost unreal.

My Opinion:

Like some other photos in this challenge, this one to me signifies a travel destination rather than travel itself. The (misleading) feeling of offcentre rotation, combined with the grainy sky and odd colours, really pulls this shot down, which is a shame, since its a really beautiful location.

If you have any questions about this critique, please feel free to PM me about it.

This is a very pretty photo - I love the colors, but something looks unnatural about the trees on the left and the right. I see a horizontal light/dark streaking on them. Comments about what might have caused this? Perhaps oversaturation?

Beautiful picture, but a little too grainy. Nice colors and composition though.

Great capture of the clouds. Beautiful colours.

Nice landscape, too bad it's missing quality in the sky

Looks like a post card! Great job!

This really has the feel of a watercolor - nice color balance.

On one hand, it's a very pretty scene, but there are a couple things that bother me here. One, it seems tilted too far to the right (the water looks like it could spill off the side of the frame), and there's something disturbing about the quality of the image -- it almost looks as though it was scanned on a poor scanner rather than as a digital camera image. At 72K, it's only 1/2 the compression quality allowed on the site.

God is quite an artist. This is so beautiful . good photo

A static picture of a motive seen from postcards from all over the world. The quality is terrible. Is this really a digital photo or is it scanned?

But for the grain in ths sky and the slightly overly blue (cyan) sky this is a fantastic photo! I started to offer this a 10, but those two factors wouldn't let me. Beautiful 9. Swash

Very beautiful. Looks like it could use just a bit of sharpening. Great shot... 8 waltoml.

What vivid colors here ! The placid lake and floral accents are well balanced. - z

You went for the esthetic shot, didn't you. Hoping for high scores on beautiful scenery, which i'm a sucker for. But how does this say travel? For all i know you may live there and be taking this from your front porch. If you are, you can expect overnight guests this summer. Of course this photo is a 10 for it. I just don't know that it says travel. So here is an 8. PTL

One of the most breathtaking shots I've ever seen. Anywhere. I'd give you a 20 if it were available as a rating!

Very pretty! One can possibly assume that this was not taken in the states? nice colors! 8 Strong1Blind

Where is this located? Quite beautiful for this time of year, lots of green....looks higher up in elevation (evergreens) but no snow...(except for what looks like a few peaks)

very nice photograph, i love the composition and colours.

When you have water in the photo you need to make sure that it is level; otherwise this is a great photo. I would like to travel to this place.

This a great pic, great composition, but it is rather grainy, especially in the sky and the lake. What happened?

simply amazing

beautiful rich colors. Your shot is suffering from major compression. Try to save it as close to 150K as you can. It is a beautiful shot.

nicely done
