My first stab at professional looking portraiture, and the first submission in this challenge.

Taken with my 75-300mm lens at 125mm. I was standing on a stool to get some height, looking down at the model. I used a white 'Lite Disc' to bounce sunlight back up from the ground, but the weather was fairly overcast anyway, avoiding any harsh shadows. The 'Lite-Disc' is the circle you can see in the eyes.

Well, you did good! Beautiful portrait.

One of my personal top three for this challenge.

Tones are good but what sets this apart from other portraitures in my opinion is how the DOF is set such that your model's entire face and only the face is highlighted. Outstanding work.

The more I study this portrait, the more I like it. The skin tones are beautiful and the image has depth and warmth. Beautiful use of selective desat as well. Fabulous!

Very effective capture. Her expression is lovely and spontaneous. The photo may be a bit light; some darkening of the tone may have a bit more impact, but well done. I'm sure she's pleased with this.

Beautiful! Love the composition, focus etc. Not dure about the partial desat. Probably helps make you look longer at the image as it is so subtle. 9

excellent portrait shot. the eyes grab you, the line of her face against her hair holds you. the hint of a strong jaw adds character to a powerful image. as much as i love this shot, if it doesn't top 10, i'll be willing to bet it is because of the earrings and necklace.

Not an expert but I like the softness and desaturation of this photo. The blue eyes standout. Very nice work. 7

I do notice that the only color saturated part is her eyes, lovely tone color. Great portrait, looks natural.

Good portrait, I like the softness and tones a lot 9

The cropping is a bit too harsh to me. I would've either desaturate it completely, or make her eyes more blue. They look a bit too gray to me (and she probably has beautiful blue eyes).

Beautiful composition here.
What strikes me most about this is the eyes. They are perfectly placed in the composition and keep drawing my own eyes to them. Nice tonality.
Bumping up a notch. Well Done! ((9))

Subtle colors, beautiful girl. Should do very well

Excellent details where they count especially around the eyes which is the main focal point for me. And it looks like you did a selective desat and even desaturated the eyes a bit. Very subtle yet very effective. Amazing details of her hair, as well. Contrast is a bit low but I really like the overall feel of this photo. Very warm although I wish she was smiling or at least not so sad or serious. 8

Attractive subject, great lighting and focus for a potrait. The model's skin looks a bit spotty, so perhaps extending the soft focus to include more of her face, tweaking the lighting a bit, or perhaps finding an appropriate filter while taking the photo would serve to smooth her skin even more.

Where have I seen her before..... Think! Think!....
Don't know... Good photo, but I'm not crazy about the Desaturation (just my opinion)

I really like this, such a subtle and flattering shot! The softness of it is great, but you've left the eyes nice and sharp! Well done! 9

She's a beautiful model, and I love the earring, but the necklace is distracting. I love the crispness of her blue eyes, and her freckles, too, but there is a "pinkness" to her hair and lips that I can't tell if it's my eyes or your intentions...I don't know if it's working or not, honestly... but overall it's... lovely! Thank you!

black and white with blue eyes? A shame as this would work very well as a normal photo in B&W.

Nice portrait, the earrings are wonderul and are the icing on the cake for me. You've captured her complexion really well... no-one can have a complexion that flawless, so you've done an amazing job of flattering her skin tone while keeping plenty of detail. The lighting is nice and smooth everywhere, and the hair is nicely backlit. The shallow dof is perfect. My only criticism is that I'm not that fond of her expression, she looks like she hasn't quite dropped her defenses enough. 8

I don't know why, but this picture seems a little stretched horizontally. The saturation in the eyes is very nice, very subtle, but still noticable. The soft focus is good. I'm not too big on the crop though (which may be why it looks stretched), and I don't get a lot of emotion out of the pose. 7.

Gorgeous! Excellent skin texture and soft lighting. Not sure if the subtle use of color is too distracting, I bet the photo would work at least as well without it (maybe darken the lips instead of coloring).

Excellent capture of her eyes. I find the desaturation of all but her eyes leaves the image a little unbalanced. I think you also left some colour in the lips, but not enough to balance it out. An excellent photo, nonetheless.

Vicki is beautiful and has fantasic eyes. I like the crop and composition but feel like the jewelry is a distraction. Especially the necklace. It would give a more "model" type feel without them. Nice shot.

beautiful image with good use of shallow depth of field. The fillagree earring adds some nice ornamentation to her beautiful face. great eyes, although they seem a bit flat without catchlights. The hair lighting is excellent. since we can't see her whole necklace, what is visible around her neck is distracting, but this is a lovely portrait.

I'd like to see a little more contrast to bring out the jaw line at the rear. Otherwise a fine portrait of an attractive model.

this is a gr8 photo! i love the effect created by the hair and the earing though the only thing i may want to change is the colour of the eyes... they seem too surreal to me by their colour... though reflection wise and all that i highly commend you on the fact that they are some of the most perfect eyes that i have seen for a long time.... just yeah possibly look at changing the hue / saturation as they seem very eary though i guess it depends on what effect your after

Nice, calm and "silent" picture. Seems like hints of colours are still left (eyes and lips) or is it just an illusion.
Great shot

A highly attractive study with another twist on desat..using sepia. Well the subtle coloration is very pleasant, the image is in good focus, pretty earrings and of course, pretty girl. The angulat composition is great because it rivets the viewers attention.

I'm not a fan of colorized images so the blue eyes trouble me. Other than that (I know, I should have started out on a positive note, sorry 'bout that) The portrait is gorgeous. Wonderful soft light without any shadows. I've been staring at her baby blues trying to see if you used a reflector and I think you did. Very lovely girl, a redhead? I'd love to see a true color photo of her sometime.

Beautiful portrait, and a beautiful girl. It has a very professional look to it, and I'm sure she must be very pleased with how this turned out! I gave it a 7 -- only because of the blur of her hair and neck on the left sign. But you did a great job.

Nice portrait study. The subtle color is nice. I imagine you went back and forth over how strong or soft to make it. I would have liked a touch of color on her earrring. I like the tight cop too.

I'm not sure what to make of the expression. A beautiful model, and I like the lighting & color treatment very much. There's just something about the expression that isn't fitting in for me.

A lovely portrait with intimacy created by the close crop. Nice angle to her face within the frame and hair frames her face very nicely. Earring adds nice detail. 7 (//www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=129433)

NIce tight crop. I can't tell if you tried to use selective desat. here with the eyes. Also, I like this because her face pops off the screen like a 3-D illusion. (6).

Wow, her eyes draw all the attention, nice subtle coloring. I am not usually fond of partial saturation but the effect does work here, I am wondering whether it would be any less without the coloring. Good portrait, focus and depth of field is just perfect, as is the composition.

I really like the soft tones and narrow DOF. Gives her a dreamy appearance. The eyes, with just a bit of coloring are quite captivating. I also like the flow of movement of how my eyes are led...up the neck to the earing and over to the eyes, and then down her hair. I don't mind that the top of head was cut off. Nice intimate portrait. 8
