Challenge: Mystery Word Triptych (Advanced Editing VII*)
Collection: 2012 Challenge shots
Date: Jul 19, 2012
Date Uploaded: Jul 19, 2012

[Jul. 20th, 2012 04:13:01 PM]

I had a hard time deciding what to do for this challenge. I really didn't have inspiration, I just had a couple of pictures that I liked during the week that didn't go together and didn't go with anything else. I thought about birds or squirrels, but didn't know what to do with them (the squirrels haven't been around for quite awhile.)

Coming up to the end, I kept trying to figure out what I "want" to shoot. I rarely shoot anything unless it's for a challenge or a nature opportunity.

But then I remember pears! I love pears! I've had a marvelous time before shooting pears.

But what word?

Obviously!!! Pair!!! (as I sit and giggle to myself, feeling very silly that I was giggling to myself, but I was doing it anyway.) Pairs of pears. :)

Then, since I didn't know what to do, I made a story. I thought that people would think separated, divorced, etc., but the word I kept thinking was love. That's what's hurting in this shot.

By the way, no pear was hurt in the making of this shoot. The poor thing already had a broken stem, which led to the story. (my daughter helped me pick out photogenic pears with personality, and she found him.) I had to prop the stem back up with matting tape stuck on both ends to take the first couple of shots.

It's only day one, but I'm currently at 29 votes and 7.6 average with 15 comments. I'm completely and totally floored. I like it quite a bit, but didn't think it would go over that well. Maybe too many people have broken stems and are sympathizing? :)

How funny! The voters at the beginning and end of the challenge were the best guessers.

Congrats to all who guess Pair(s)!!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments!

curious, what kind of background did you use? is it a dedicated photographic background or did you improvise some other material?

congratulations, Wendy, nicely constructed story, even if a little sad :). By the way, have you seen the work of this Russian photographer? She creates great stories with pears, as well as with other inanimate objects like nails and chess figures. They come alive in her hands.

hmmm that pear looks like it's heart broken. Nice job telling a story using only pears. My guess is something like divorce or seperation

#2, tied with another.
Nothing really to say. Simple and effective. Can't rate this with my #1 only because it's boring, in a good way. This is one of those photos you'd hand in your kitchen or dining room, but doesn't ask for a conversation to be spoken about it. For that reason I knocked it down to second place in my books.

The appearance of so many pairs prohibits the possibility of producing proper pityful points precluding me to say pretty pears.

patience...slow and steady wins the race. lovely color and DOF. The photos are fantastic and simply clean. one distraction for me is the missing border on the bottom picture's left side. outside of that well done.
