Love the focus on the deep red of the cherry.

An interesting crop, but it might have been better from a lower, less human angle. Seems a bit dark as well.

The right-most cherry really wants to be the focal point but it's too far over to the side and not enough of it is in focus. I would like it better with a little larger DOF so the near edge of the frosting wasn't as blurry.

Looks great and delcious! The cherry in focus seems somewhat alone on the right.

Unfortunately the front center of the cake is out of focus and that is the first place my eyes went to, I lie that the cherry is in focus but it may have worked better if DOF was a little wider to include the front of the cake.

I really like the bold crop and the soft focus. Great job. I might like to see more green just to balance out the browns and reds.

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".

What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.

So, where does this leave me with your image?

Gimme some NOW! Maybe a little tight, maybe a little under-exposed in the shadows, but all the same, nice work! Excellent color palette!

I like this. I like the shallow depth of field. The two cherries in the back are gorgeously oof. For some reason the stem on the front one being out of focus bugs me. I wish it was turned a little so the whole stem was in focus (simply because the stems are wonderful on a cherry, and very photogenic.)

Also, have you tried flipping it horizontally? Sometime it's much more comfortable for the eye to start of in focus and move towards the oof (since we read from left to right.) -7-

Voted earlier coming back to comment now.

Colors and lighting is lovely on this photo dessert. The flaw is the very soft focus, but oddly it also is a strength. The only thing that is in sharp focus is the one cherry and a bit of the frosting around it. All else is soft focus such that we cannot truly appreciate the details of this tasty treat. However that soft focus works to project a feeling of velvety softness - that this cake will literally melt in you mouth with smooth silky taste of chocolate and vanilla icing. So I do like what the soft focus does but I think it just needs a little tweaking to get a better balance better sharp focus and soft. Perhaps if the middle 40% horizontal portion was in sharp focus but the far background and near foreground soft focus it would get that Goldilock's "just right" feel (yeah, I know: man she is being so darn picky:-) )
