Haha!! It's so much more interesting as a monster than as a grid! Don't you love it when mistakes make a picture? :)
Congrats on the top 10!! |

Very stylish; I like the simplicity. Seems a little dark on the dessert in the shadows. |

The darker tones definitely stand out among the high-key, plated dessert, competitors. Great entry. |

I like this but on my screen the overall impression is too dark. |

I love the drip on his nose!! I think I would have liked a closer in shot without the spoon, however. The spoon seems to lead the eye away from the dessert, and I tend to focus on the reflection on the bowl of the spoon. Also, the dessert seems quite dark in the front. -6- for the shot, +1 for making it look delicious and for illuminating the drop on his nose. :) |

In judging this challenge I don't ask "Does this photo make me want to eat this?" I ask "Would I want to hang this on my wall?" Other than some weaknesses this is good technically and would be a good photo for illustrating your dessert in a menu or cookbook, but it isn't that exciting for an artistic photo. It could be cropped tighter since the eye moves between the "monster" and the tip and bowl of the spoon and there's extra space that is unused. Also, the plate is a little dark as a backdrop for the dark chocolate. |

I like this one, a bit of a dark atmosphere, almost like the real Loch Ness. And with the bright yellow colour you're able to compensate those dark colours. And the chocolates on top (with the yellow drip on it's bose - fabulous) are really finishing this creation. |

i gave this an 8 and i like the stylishness of it, i feel its a little dark though on the pudding that facing us, needed some fill light to compliment the bright spoon reflection. i like the drip on the nose of the monster. |

I really like this and would have given it a 10 if it wasn't for the darkness in front. Would have needed an extra source of lighting, however the composition and set up are just beautiful and so I gave it an 8! |

Food doesn't usually look good on black plates but the addition of the teaspoon really helped it a lot. I like your placement of the dessert on the plate. Appealing shot and the dessert looks good too! |

Great attention to detail. I would have preferred to see a tighter crop without the extra space under the plate especially. |

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
Simply beautiful. I wouldn't do much else, except to print it off and hang it on a wall. And *maybe* (just my personal opinion here), try to bring out just a little more detail in the shadows; not much, just a little. |

It's all in how you look at it :) funny my wife walked in while I was voting and goes.."look its Nessy." I told her she was nut then scrolled down and saw the title and had to laugh. Funny story aside, this shot is nice enough reflections are decent and the lighting is Ok I personally would have gone a wee bit brighter but there is nothing inherently wrong with the brightness. Overall nice shot imo and thanks for the laugh. |

excellent use of light and black. one of my favorites. smart border choice. My only (and very minor) criticism would be to have used a true silver spoon or one without water spots. the spoon looks streaky on my monitor which compared to the absolutely pristine shininess of everything else...Still, that being said 10 |

Voted earlier coming back to comment.
I love the presentation, the colors, the the word play on this dessert entry. The chocolate topping on the lemon colored cake does look like Nessie! The yellow of the cake just pops visually off of the black plate. I also love how the spoon is added into the composition that basically invites us to reach down and take a bite out of this dessert. My only critique is that I wish the lighting was a little more even to provide a bit more illumination and detail of the front half of the treat. As it is now, it rests a bit too much in the shadow - show us more of those lovely yellow and tasty details. |

Of the pictures in this challenge, this is certainly one of the better composed images. Spoon leads you in, cake is simple and appealing, nice simple backdrop and plate... I imagine this as a winner. |

Oh, how beautiful! My favourite of the challenge so far.
Please allow me a tiny nitpick... The blurry end of the spoon in the foreground is rather irritating. Hope you don't mind me mentioning it. |
