I don't know if it's because of the quality of the light coming off the glass on the plate, but it looks like you selected the background separately and did some processing on it that left the edges between your dessert and background looking unreal (that "shopped" look). It looks like the hole for the skewer was created by melting, and there's a blob of chocolate just below where the skewer comes through that ends up being distracting. I don't feel like there's enough texture captured in the mango, and a different combination of viewing and lighting angles might have worked better.

Nice contrast with the blue background.

The yelow-on-blue made the difference for me. Like the composition too.

I like the blue and yellow contrast. The color balance makes the chocolate a little too yellow to be appetizing though. I like the close crop and the composition, but think it could have been even closer for more interest. I also wish the focal distance was far enough to blur out the scratches on the plate.

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".

What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.

So, where does this leave me with your image?

Nice idea, but needs work. As is, this is more about the toothpick than the dessert. Even without the toothpick, the lighting is a bit too harsh, robbing the mango of the detail it needs to bring out the texture needed to balance against the deep blue bowl. It's just not that pleasing visually.
