This was also taken during my trip to chincoteague. I love this shot, and it was almost my entry for the bird challenge. In many ways, I like it better than the bird challenge shot, simply because it catches the personality of the bird.

Most of the photos I'm showing below, (not all) I didn't bother doing much with -- just clicking "auto" in the RAW editor. I just wanted to show you a little about these birds.

The snowy egrets are so much fun to photograph -- they're always on the go.

Snowy egrets are much smaller than the great egrets -- here's a comparison:

While the great egrets just sit and wait for the fish to go by:

The snowys are always on the move. They fish by running or shuffling their feet to flush out prey. They turn, they twist, suddenly changing directions:

and they look quite silly at times:

I don't really us AIservo focusing on my camera -- it doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the speed of some of the things I shoot, so these guys are difficult to capture because of all of the quick jerks/movements they make.

The have big yellow feet that are endearingly silly:

My family is extremely lucky that I don't live closer to Chincoteague -- I doubt that they would ever see me again! There's so much to discover there, and it changes throughout the year. I'd never been there in June -- and there was a totally different group of birds there. I had been hoping for more of these:

that I had seen in Nov, but they were nowhere to be found. We usually go up thankgiving weekend in November to see the snow geese migration, and last year there were none to be found. It was so warm, the migration hadn't really started yet.

Chincoteague is known for its wild ponies and its wild pony roundup and auction

but who care about wild ponies if you can have funky birds?? :)

Two shots that are very special to me:

The end!
