 I went riding along the Strand early Sunday in hopes of finding one of the mass gatherings of gulls - hundreds at a time in groups just lazing about on the beach. Not a one, until I came across Bob here, feeding a handful of them (and an opportunistic pigeon or two.) I know his name is Bob because one of his neighbors came up to chat with him while I was there. He lives at the house just behind us in this photo. On the Strand. In Hermosa. He was feeding the birds dog food, and apparently did that from time to time. Even so, the birds wouldn't come very close.

I also have some very fun shots of pigeons I bribed with Cheerios, and a gull I bribed. And some pelicans some young men were attempting to bribe with squid (bait). They were not interested in the squid, but were delighted with small mackerel. Picky birds! I'll post some of those to my portfolio, too.

oh, i just noticed that we tied for 43rd place. how cool! would have been nicer if it was 4th or 3rd though. :) this is a great shot though and should have been higher than mine for sure.

Even though you got a 6+ with this, I thought it would have placed a lot higher; top ten...

Award winning shot, one of my favourites, well done.

Well coming back to this, to give you one of these , what I love about this is the 3D look about it, how the birds are on a higher plain, and the interaction between the man and the birds. All the best~!

This would guarantee the birds will show up in this place in the future. It's an interesting study in human nature. I'd like to see more detail in the birds. I don't mind the somewhat distant view, but some detail is lost in the shadows.

This shot is obviously about the birds and the man feeding them, but I became so interested in the location - trying to work out what it is (a sandy beach up against a retaining wall?) that I stopped seeing it as a 'bird' image. The conversion to b&w works well I think.
